expectations garden design construction edinburgh
Here at Stone Wood Water & Light we do not believe in bringing in machinery to remove the old garden
and replacing with a brand new one!
Even ' new-build ' gardens with their compacted clay ground full of builders rubbish and weedy grass, can be re-worked and developed with a bit of knowledge. Thus producing the beginnings of a good top soil and saving on both skips and bringing in new top soil.
If your project requires skips full of soil to be removed from your garden then we feel there has been a basic mistake in the general design. Soil is the life blood of any garden, who would throw it away?
This is one example of a systemic rather than business as usual ( systematic) approach to garden design and construction and just saved an approximate £1000 for an average 10m x 10m garden.

This saved £1000 has now just bought you your natural
paving for a large patio plus your table and chairs - rather than excavating and removing the soil you already had and your plants will certainly need!

successful garden design and build practice
Always start with what you already have ........ then bring in someone like us to fill in the rest !

All we ask is that along with all this creativity and flexibility is an a flexibility and open involvement in return from the client.
Outdoors is a changing environment and you have to be able to change with it as it unfolds.... see below
Once a project begins there are some typical phases of work for the aspect of the client.

1 - Often Amazement at how much work has been done and how quickly the old garden has gone / changed.

2- Excitement at new shapes and materials arriving

3- A Slight uncertainty as the project enters its middle stage and all the important foundation work is being put in place.
Client questions will start to creep into play at this stage, some crucial to works, some due to the mess and uncertainties
involved.Questions are all important to the ongoing success of your project..... so fire away!

4- All the framework now in place, the garden can start to come together - an energy or momentum returns.

5- The hardlandscaping is in place but uncertainty still lingers......Do we like it?

6- The garden is now planted with a mix of mature and immature plants driven by time, costs and good practice - the final
piece is now in place.

7 - Client is delighted , and yet the garden is only at day 1 of it's new life...........
8 - A client involved from the beginning carrys on where we left off...... ( help is at hand if ever needed)
9- A client not involved from beginning is full of doubt, uncertainty and questions..... and then often a snagging list ( usually quickly sorted)
10- Gardens and their wider landscape are never finished.......that's whats great about them.
